Final Stats

MIAMI - The Pioneers fought back from as many as 13 points down, but Florida International held on to beat DU 61-59 at Pharmed Arena on Saturday night.

Freshman guard Tyler Bullock (Lincoln, Neb.) went coast-to-coast for a lay-up to cut the lead to two points with six seconds remaining in the contest, but the Golden Panthers (7-10, 2-5 SBC) were able to run the clock out and hold for the win.

Denver (2-15, 1-6 SBC), which entered the game leading the Sun Belt Conference by shooting 73.7 percent from the free throw line, made only 10-of-19 from the charity stripe in the second half and hit only one of the final five.

Bullock led DU with 16 points, while senior guards DaShawn Walker (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in 13 points.

Junior center Adam Tanner (Melbourne, Australia) led DU with a career-high nine rebounds.

The Golden Panthers led by 11 points with 1:38 left in the first half, thanks to a 12-1 run over a six-minute span, but a dunk by Bullock followed by a three-pointer by Walker at the buzzer left FIU leading 29-21 at the half.

Florida International was led by forward Cedrick Essola's 12 points, and guard Erick Nsangou pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers outscored the Golden Panthers 38-32 in the second half, the first time in 20 games that DU has outscored an opponent after the break.

The Pioneers return home for a match-up with Florida Atlantic (7-9, 3-3 SBC) on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7:00 p.m. MT as part of a doubleheader with the DU women's team. The game can be heard live on AM 950 or online at www.DenverPioneers.com.
