DENVER - After South Alabama scored the first bucket of the game, Denver went on a 16-0 run and extended their lead to as many as 14 points, but South Alabama came storming back in the second half for a 70-64 win over the Pioneers.
Denver (3-16, 2-7 SBC) led by three at halftime, but the Jaguars (13-7, 7-2 SBC) outscored DU 38-29 in the second half.
"Our team played well, but sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team," said interim head coach Kevin Reynolds. "We went on a great run to start the game, but South Alabama made some great adjustments that worked."
Senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago) scored a team-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds, while senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver) tallied 14 points, including four three-pointers.
South Alabama outscored the Pioneers 30-10 in the paint and 11-6 on second-chance points. It was the Jaguars' fourth straight victory after trailing at the half.
Senior guard Alex Cox (Brisbane, Australia) matched his career high with five assists in the first half and extended it to eight by the end of the game.
