TROY, Ala. - Four Pioneers scored in double digits, and Denver lead for all but 2:14, but Troy squeaked out a 66-63 win at Trojan Arena on Thursday.
Senior guard Alex Cox (Brisbane, Australia) scored 15 points to lead the Pioneers, while freshman guard Tyler Bullock (Lincoln, Neb.) had 13 points, senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver) had 11 and senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago) added 10.
DU (3-17, 2-8 SBC) led by 11 with 7:44 remaining, but the Trojans (9-12, 4-6 SBC) went on a 15-1 run to close it out for the win.
Guard Richard Chaney led Troy with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Chaney scored six of his points in the final 7:30, including an alley-oop dunk with 4:11 left that put the Trojans within two and a jumper with just over a minute left that put Troy in front for good.
Junior center Adam Tanner (Melbourne, Australia) set a career-high with 10 rebounds to go along with five points.
The first half was back-and-forth with Denver opening the game with a 9-0 run and adding a 14-1 run down the stretch, but Troy fired back with 8-0 and 9-0 runs to keep the game close. DU led for all but 1:03 before the break and headed to the locker room with a 32-31 advantage.
