Pioneers Fall to Air Force, 2-1

Box Score

DENVER Sophomore forward Kellan Christensen (Layton, Utah) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, but Denver fell to Air Force 2-1 at Pioneer Field on Saturday afternoon.

“It was a really disappointing loss,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “I feel like we gave away the first 45 minutes of the game. I am disappointed at how we came out and played the first half.”

Air Force (3-7-1, 1-2-0) got on the scoreboard first when Kyle Moses hit Andy Nigro for a one-timer past senior goalkeeper Matt Bredehoft (Fort Collins, Colo.) at the 8:36 mark.

The Pioneers (5-4-1, 1-1-1 MPSF) tied it up less than four minutes later, when Christensen chipped the ball over Air Force goalkeeper Brian Guyette and into the goal.

The Falcons pulled ahead again just before halftime, when Nigro set up Moses.

In the game, Denver outshot Air Force, 37-11

DU will play a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation games next weekend at Pioneer Field. Denver takes on Sacramento State on Friday at 4 p.m. and San Jose State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
