Pioneers Shut Out Air Force, 1-0

Box Score

USAFA, Colo. Junior forward Kyle Christensen (Layton, Utah) scored his sixth goal in six games to help the University of Denver men’s soccer team defeat Air Force 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

“This was a good win for us on the road, and it’s good to get a shutout for the first time in a while,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “We had a really nice goal early. We could have used a second goal, but Air Force is a tough team and they fought hard.”

Kyle Christensen scored the goal just 4:30 into the game off a give and go with his brother, sophomore forward Kellan Christensen (Layton, Utah).

Senior goalkeeper Matt Bredehoft (Fort Collins, Colo.) had four saves to record his third shutout of the season.

The Pioneers (9-4-3, 5-1-2 MPSF) sit atop the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation standings with two home games to play. New Mexico (9-4-1, 5-1-1 MPSF) is just one point behind Denver with three to play, including the final game of the season at Pioneer Field on Nov. 18.

DU is looking for its first appearance in the Men’s College Cup. Because the MPSF does not have a postseason tournament, the winner of the conference’s regular season title receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Denver returns to Pioneer Field for the final home games of the season against UNLV on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. and New Mexico on Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.
