Pioneers Fall to Blue Raiders, 75-49

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee used an 11-2 run to start the second half and rode to a 75-49 victory over Denver on Thursday night.

Senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago) hit a three-pointer with seven seconds left in the half, bringing the score to 34-32 at the break, but DU (3-19, 2-10 SBC) managed only one field goal during the first 9:30 after the break and shot only 18.2 percent in the half.

Freshman forward Nate Rohnert (Parker, Colo.) provided seven of the Pioneers' first nine points during the first 11:45 of the second half.

Middle Tennessee (12-11, 7-5 SBC), which outscored the Pioneers 41-17 in the second half, was led by Theryn Hudson, who hit a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists. Kevin Kanaskie and Tim Blue each had 11 points, while Kyle Young scored a game-high 13 points.

Walker, who entered the game averaging 21.5 points and six rebounds in two games against the Blue Raiders at the Murphy Center, scored eight points.

The win was only the second for Middle Tennessee at home during conference play and its first win over Denver in the past four games, including two at the Murphy Center last season.

Senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver) scored nine points, all in the first half, and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Tyler Bullock (Lincoln, Neb.) and Joe Jackson (New Orleans) each added eight points.

Sophomore walk-on Brian Giometti (San Diego, Cali.) recorded his first career blocked shot with just over a minute remaining in the game.

The Pioneers return home to play the rescheduled game against Arkansas State (12-11, 7-4 SBC) on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. MT in Hamilton Gymnasium. The game, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 21, can be heard live online at www.DenverPioneers.com.
