Final Stats

DENVER -

The University of Denver men's basketball team battled back from a 16-point deficit in the first half to take the lead with 57 seconds remaining, but Louisiana-Lafayette's David Dees hit a jumper with a second remaining to carry the Ragin' Cajuns to a 67-65 victory on DU's senior night.

Denver had one last chance, as freshman Tyler Bullock (Lincoln, Neb.) caught a full-court pass and fired, but the shot spun around the basket and rimmed out.

The Pioneers (4-23, 3-14) were led by junior Adam Tanner (Melbourne, Australia), sophomore Joe Jackson (New Orleans, La.) and freshman Nate Rohnert (Parker, Colo.), who each contributed 13 points.

The Pioneers found themselves playing from behind early as Louisiana-Lafayette started the game on a 12-0 run until Tanner sank a three point basket for Denver's first bucket six minutes into the contest.

After trailing by as many as 16 points, the Pioneers pulled to within four by the end of the first half, 36-32. Denver ended the half on a 14-4 run over the final five minutes with Rohnert scoring 11 of DU's points.

In the second half the Pioneers pulled to within one with 9:25 remaining, but Louisiana-Lafayette used a 10-0 run to stretch the lead back to 11. Jackson ended the Pioneers' shooting slump when he hit a big three-pointer to pull the Pioneers within eight at 8:07 of the second half.

The Pioneers went on a 10-0 run of their own to pull ahead for the first time in the ball game with 2:51 left in the second half. The two teams traded buckets until Louisiana-Lafayette's Ross Mouton hit a three-pointer with 36 seconds left to pull the Ragin' Cajuns ahead by two, 65-63. Jackson tied the game with a fade-away jumper, but Dees's shot sealed it.

The Pioneers hit the road for their final regular-season game at Louisiana-Monroe (16-11, 10-5 SBC) on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. MT. The game can be heard live on AM 1600 or online at www.DenverPioneers.com.
