Pioneers Fall to Warhawks, 83-67

MONROE, La. - The Pioneers season ended tonight with a 83-67 defeat to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championship at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Wednesday night.

Sophomore guard Joe Jackson (New Orleans) led the Pioneers (4-25, 3-16 SBC) with 16 points, while junior center Adam Tanner (Melbourne, Australia) added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver) scored 12 points. Porch ends his career with 1,035 points and 530 rebounds. In the DU record books, Porch is sixth in games played (114) and fifth with an 82.9 percentage from the free throw line.

DU cut the lead to four with just under 15 minutes to play, but the Warhawks (18-13, 12-7 SBC) followed with a 7-0 run and increased it from there.

Despite hitting 23.1 percent from three-point range in the first half, the Pioneers shot 46.7 percent from the field and trailed 42-34 heading into the locker rooms.

Louisiana-Monroe was led with 26 points by guard Tony Hooper, who had 29 in the Warhawks victory over Denver last year.

Senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago) finished his career with 819 points and 264 rebounds, as well as finishing ninth all-time for the Pioneers with 133 three-pointers and seventh with a 81.6 free throw percentage.

ULM continues to the quarter round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Saturday, Mar. 4. The game will be at 2 p.m. MT against North Texas.
