DENVER - Freshman midfielder Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Co-Player of the Week for Mar. 6 - 12, sharing the honor with Stanford goalkeeper Laura Shane, the MPSF announced today.
Flury had 11 points last week on nine goals and two assists, as the No. 16 Pioneers (5-1) won their fourth and fifth straight road games. Flury was also named Player of the Week by womenslax.com.
The freshman scored four goals and dished out a pair of assists in a 14-5 victory at No. 18 Hofstra on Friday. On Sunday, Flury scored five goals, while adding four ground balls, four draw controls and a caused turnover, in a 17-9 win at Stony Brook.
Through six games this season, Flury leads the Pioneers with 23 goals and two game-winners. Flury is tied with Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) for the team-lead in points with 26 and free-position goals with five, and she is third on the team in both ground balls and draw controls.
This marks the first time Flury has been named the MSPF Player of the Week, and it marks the second straight week a Pioneer has been named to the honor, as Leggio won last week.
The Pioneers returned home to face George Washington on Tuesday, winning 18-12 for their sixth-straight victory. Flury scored six goals in the contest, giving her 15 goals and two assists in the past five days.
