DENVER - On the day she was named Co-MPSF Player of the Week, freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) continued her offensive explosion, scoring six goals, as the No. 15 Pioneers won their sixth-straight by beating George Washington, 18-12.
Flury now has 29 goals this season, the third most for a freshman in DU's history.
The Colonials (1-2) struck first in the contest, scoring a pair of goals in just over 10 minutes before senior midfielder Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) put Denver (6-1) on the board.
George Washington answered, putting the Colonials back up by two.
Sophomore Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.), Flury and Leggio each scored in the next four minutes to give the Pioneers the lead.
George Washington's Katherine Sampson tied it with just over seven minutes to play in the first half, but junior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) scored a goal and Leggio found it twice more before Sampson added another goal just before the half, sending DU to the locker room with a 7-5 lead.
The Colonials opened the second half with a Sampson goal, but DU scored four unanswered to push the lead to five.
In the next 14 minutes, George Washington outscored the Pioneers, 5-1, bringing the game back to within a goal, but DU responded with six unanswered goal, including three by Flury and two by Coyne.
The Colonials scored their 12th goal with 52 seconds to play, but the Pioneers had already sealed it.
In the game, Coyne had eight points on four goals and four assists, while Leggio added five goals and an assist.
The Pioneers next head to Baltimore, Md., to face UMBC on Monday, Mar. 19 at 5 p.m. MT.
