MALIBU, Calif. - Junior Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) was a double-winner today, but it wasn't enough as the No. 56 University of Denver lost to No. 19 Pepperdine, 5-2, in men's tennis action this afternoon at Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. DU falls to 12-6 with the loss, while Pepperdine improves to 12-6.
"Adam had a great day with a nice win over the 13th-ranked player," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "He and Nik also played well to defeat a very good doubles tandem."
Holmstrom improved his impressive record to 17-1 overall with the 6-4, 7-5 win over No. 13 Andre Begemann. He also teamed with Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) to knock off the No. 40 doubles tandem of Richard Johnson and Omar Altmann, 8-6.
DU won the doubles point with Holmstrom and Persson's win and a win from Nejc Smole (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) at No. 2 doubles.
Holmstrom recorded the lone singles win for DU as Pepperdine won the remaining five singles matches.
The Pioneers return to action tomorrow at Loyola Marymount.
