LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 66 Denver Pioneers completed their weekend sweep with a 5-2 win over No. 61 Nebraska this afternoon at Nebraska Tennis Center.
Denver claimed the doubles point and four of six singles matches to claim its second consecutive 5-2 win. The Pioneers defeated No. 72 Iowa yesterday and No. 66 Nebraska to improve to 5-1 overall.
"We played well this weekend, especially doubles," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "We must continue to get better if we want to reach our goals this season."
Seniors Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden), and junior Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany) were all doubles winners. Holmstrom won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and teammed with Persson for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Persson won in three sets at No. 2 singles. Althaus won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and paired with Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) to clinch the doubles point at No. 2.
Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) helped clinch the win with a victory at No. 6 singles.
The Pioneers return to action at New Mexico Feb. 15.
