Pioneers Battle Past Marist 21-10

Box Score

DENVER Junior Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) continued her monster week with six points off two goals and four assists, as the No. 20 University of Denver women’s lacrosse team battled past Marist 21-10 at Barton Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Coyne has recorded 25 points in the last three games and now sits just three assists away from tying Kristie Leggio (2006-07) for DU’s career assist record.

Denver (5-3) scored the first two goals, both by freshman Tulley Stapp (Denver, Colo.) from passes by Coyne, but Marist (2-1) hung in there for the first 20 minutes, tying the game 6-6 with 10:11 left in the first half.

However, the Pioneers ripped off a 6-1 run to end the half, heading into the lockerroom with a 12-7 halftime lead.

The Red Foxes struck first after the break, but Denver scored eight unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.

Junior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) added five points each in the Pioneers’ win. Carver had two goals and three assists, while Flury scored four goals and added an assist.

Lindsey Diener and Liz Falco led the Red Foxes with four points each.

DU has scored a combined 62 goals in the last three games, the most during a three-game stretch in team history.

The Pioneers conclude their seven-game homestand at Barton Stadium when they host Cincinnati on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
