Red Raiders Best Pioneers 5-2

The No. 30 Texas Tech Red Raiders won five of six singles matches to defeat No. 39 Denver in a battle of nationally-ranked opponents today at McLeod Tennis Center. Texas Tech improves to 12-1, while Denver falls to 10-3.

Senior Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) turned in another impressive performance to lead the Pioneers. Holmstrom stayed unbeaten in singles with a three-set win over No. 49 Bojan Szumanski and teamed with Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) in a big doubles win over No. 2 Christian Rojmar and Szumanski.

The doubles win by Holmstrom and Persson, along with Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) and David Simson's (Vienna, Austria) win at No. 3, clinched the doubles point, but Holmstrom's singles win was DU's last point in a close match.

"We played pretty hard, but we weren't able to make the extra shot on big plays," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "Texas Tech was a little better today, but we'll learn from this match and move on."

The Pioneers return to action at Florida Atlantic Wednesday, March 19.
