Box Score Denver - Senior midfield and Pioneer captain Collin Audley (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored the game-winner and freshman forward Nathan Sackeyfio (Seattle, Wash.) ended the night with three points, including his first career goal, as the University of Denver men's soccer team shut out Seattle 4-0 in their final regular season home game.
"I'm very proud of how the team played tonight," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "Everyone in the senior class was able to play and every one of them contributed to the win. I'm also proud of the younger guys and how they stepped up and played hard tonight."
Audley got the Pioneers (4-9-3, 1-4-1 MPSF) on the board first as he found the back of the net during a scramble in front of the goal. Sackeyfio and freshman forward Alex Tarnoczi (Castle Rock, Colo.) earned assists on the goal.
Less than two minutes later, Sackeyfio scored his first career goal on a one-timer from a cross by junior defender Michael Perry (Overland Park, Kan.). This marked Perry's second career assist and his first in two seasons.
In the 80th minute, freshman midfield Mark Weigand (Fort Wayne, Ind.) dribbled up the right side and passed to a wide-open freshman forward Josh Wren (Tulsa, Okla.), who chipped the ball past the Seattle goalkeeper from 15 yards.
Sophomore midfield Matt Kirby (Beaumont, Texas) drilled a shot from the top right corner of the box off a pass from Sackeyfio for DU's final goal.
The loss dropped the Redhawks to 3-11-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the MPSF before heading into the last weekend of regular-season play.
The Pioneers next travel to Air Force for their last regular season game on Saturday at 7 p.m. Next week, November 12-15, DU hosts the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
