DENVER Senior Rhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.) will lead the 2009-10 Denver Pioneers as team captain, head coach George Gwozdecky announced today. Rakhshani will be the first forward to lead the team since Mark Rycroft in 1999-2000.

 

Rakhshani earns the “C” after serving as an alternate captain last season. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound winger earned All-WCHA third-team honors after finishing second on the team in scoring with 15-22=37. Rakhshani surpassed the 100-point barrier during his stellar DU career last season and is the team’s career scoring leader with 39-62=101.

 

Seniors Tyler Ruegsegger (Lakewood, Colo.) and Matt Glasser (Calgary, Alberta), and junior Kyle Ostrow (Calgary, Alberta) will serve as alternate captains in 2009-10. Ruegsegger will wear the “A” for the third consecutive season after leading the WCHA with 12 power-play goals last season. Glasser netted his first career hat trick on Dec. 13 and is one of DU’s hardest workers and best students. Ostrow is on pace for 100 career points after tallying 24-27=51 in his first two seasons.

 

Season tickets for the 2009-10 season go on sale Thursday, June 25 at 10 a.m. Ticket packages begin at $176. Individual game tickets go on sale Saturday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m., with individual ticket prices ranging from $18-$35. Group tickets go on sale on Monday, Aug. 3.
