DU Downed 64-53 by ULM

Box Score

MONROE, La. - Freshman guard Chase Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) had 13 points and a career-high four three-pointers, but the University of Denver men's basketball team fell 64-53 to Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday afternoon at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Sophomore guard Brian Stafford (Walnut Creek, Calif.) added 12 points, but 19 turnovers plagued the Pioneers (12-7, 5-3 SBC), resulting in 30 points by Louisiana-Monroe (8-11, 3-5 SBC).

"I thought today we didn't play well," head coach Joe Scott said. "To turn the ball over 19 times, there's no rhyme or reason to it. It's very uncharacteristic for us, but sometimes it happens. We have to learn from this and make sure we take something away from it. I think we'll be better as both players and coaches after the experience on this trip."

Denver jumped to an early 13-4 lead, but ULM stormed back and the teams battled to a 28-28 tie at halftime.

The Warhawks were led by Rudy Turner with 19 points, while Tony Hooper and Tommie Sykes contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Pioneers return home to take on South Alabama at Magness Arena on Sat., Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. MT.
