Wisconsin outplayed the Pioneers much of the game, but DU capitalized on goals from Joe Colborne (Calgary, Alberta) and Kyle Ostrow (Calgary, Alberta), and the goaltending of Marc Cheverie (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia).
DU struck first at 16:38 of the first when Colborne buried a Matt Donovan (Edmond, Okla.) centering feed on the power play. Drew Shore (Denver) also assisted on the goal. Ostrow's no look re-direct off a Paul Phillips (Darien, Ill.) gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead at 1:56 of the third period.
The momentum quickly changed when Wisconsin cut the lead to 2-1 when Geoffrion redirected a Michael Davies wrist shot at 4:31. Davies then pounded home a rebound at 7:15 and Geoffrion's second goal gave the Badgers their first lead at 8:43.
Cheverie (32 saves) preserved the tie with a diving save on a Cody Goulebef shot as time expired in regulation.
DU outshot UW, 4-0 in overtime, and had a great chance to win. However, Ostrow's breakaway attempt and Jesse Martin's shot from the low slot were thwarted by Scott Gudmandson (20 saves).
The Badgers outshot Denver 35-23 and went 1-for-6 on the power play. DU went 1-for-5 with the man-advantage.
