LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Denver improved to 3-0 with a dramatic 4-3 win over No. 65 Nebraska today in Lincoln.
Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) clinched the win with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win over Benedikt Lindheim at No. 4 singles.
"It was amazing to see how composed this young team was under pressure today," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "Our guys have all bought in from day one, and they deserve this win. We need to continue to work hard daily, so we can be in position to win these tough matches."
DU claimed the doubles point with wins from Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) at No. 1 and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) at No. 2. Weihs and Vorkefeld clinched the point with a 9-8 (11-9) win.
The Pioneers went up 3-1 in singles after wins from Vorkefeld and Landwerlen at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Nebraska cut the lead to 3-2 before Biasion won in three sets at No. 4.
DU hosts in-state rival Air Force on Friday, Jan. 29 at CAC-Inverness.
