Box Score

TROY, Ala. - The University of Denver men's basketball team was defeated 64-46 by Troy at Trojan Arena on Saturday night.

"They're a well coached team, and they did what they needed to do," head coach Joe Scott said. "We have to be able to do what they did. We need to stick with the game plan when things get tough. Troy gave us a good lesson in that."

The Pioneers (10-5, 3-1 SBC) were led by senior guard Nate Rohnert (Parker, Colo.) and junior forward Andrew Hooper's (Lakewood, Colo.), who both had nine points. Brandon Hazzard had 23 points and Richard Delk scored 16 points for the Trojans (8-6, 3-0 SBC).

Troy opened the second half on an 18-4 run before freshman guard Chase Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) hit a three-pointer with 11:52 remaining, but Troy shot 56.5 percent in the second half to seal the victory. The Pioneers shot a season-low 39.1 percent (18-of-46).

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, as Denver shot just 34.8 percent (8-for-23) and Troy was 8-for-19 (42.1 percent). However, the Pioneers took a 24-23 lead into halftime.

The Pioneers return home to Magness Arena for a pair of Sun Belt Conference match-ups. Denver will host New Orleans on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. and two-time defending SBC champion Western Kentucky on Jan. 10.
