Box Score

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Rookie Sam Brittain (Calgary, Alberta) stopped a career-best 33 shots for his first career shutout as No. 12 Denver gained a hard-fought 3-0 win at No. 8 North Dakota in WCHA tonight before 11,690 fans at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Sophomore Drew Shore (Denver), freshman Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev.) and senior captain Kyle Ostrow (Calgary, Alberta) scored as DU moves to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 WCHA with the win and series split. North Dakota falls to 4-3-1, 3-1-0.

"We showed a lot of determination tonight after a sub-par game last night," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "Sam played a great game and we rallied after we lost center Jesse Martin in the second period."

DU was being outplayed until the 11:06 mark of the second period when Jesse Martin (Edmonton, Alberta) suffered a hit to the head by UND's Brad Malone, who received a five-minute major penalty for charging and 10-minute misconduct on the play.

DU rallied without its senior center as Shore scored as the five-minute power-play expired at 16:06.

Zucker made the score 2-0 when he accepted a long outlet pass from Kyle Ostrow and beat Brad Eidsness (14 saves) on a breakaway at 4:15 of the third period. Kyle Ostrow iced the win with an empty-net goal at 19:42.

North Dakota dominated Denver in the opening period. The Sioux outshot the Pioneers, 15-5, but Brittain sparkled in net with several big-time saves. Brittain added eight saves in the second period and completed the shutout with 10 stops in the third.

The Fighting Sioux outshot Denver, 33-17, but went 0-for-4 on the power play. DU was 0-for-2 with the man-advantage.

Anthony Maiani (Shelby Township, Mich.) chipped in two assists and Shore and Kyle Ostrow finished with multi-point efforts.

Notes: Martin was taken to Altru Hospital for precautionary reasons. Shore and Zucker lead DU with five goals each. Beau Bennett (Gardena, Calif.) tallied one assist in each game this weekend. DU plays in-state rival Colorado College on Nov. 5-6.
