Stigall Garners National and MPSF Honors

DENVER -University of Denver men's soccer junior midfielder Jarod Stigall (Plano, Texas) was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Men's Team of the Week, as well as earning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week honors.

Stigall recorded a hat trick on only four shots in Denver 5-1 victory at Air Force to open the MPSF season, marking DU's first hat trick since Kellan Christensen tallied three goals against Birmingham Southern on Sept. 9, 2007. His first goal in the 29th minute proved to be the game-winner, while his second and third goals provided insurance.

"I'm glad that Jarod was recognized for his efforts last weekend on the road against a good Air Force team," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "The best part about his performance was that his efforts were all about helping the team succeed."

Stigall leads the MPSF and is 28th in the nation with 1.56 points per game. Stigall also is tied with teammate Alex Tarnoczi (Castle Rock, Colo.) for the MPSF lead with four assists, and he is second with five goals.

This marks the second MPSF Player of the Week award for Stigall, who also earned the honor on Sept. 13, making him the only player to win the honor twice.

Additionally, Top Drawer Soccer added the Pioneers to their Tournament 48, which the website uses to predict the 48 teams that will make the NCAA Tournament.

The Pioneers next travel to New Mexico on Friday and UNLV on Sunday.
