Denver Falls 61-48 at Wyoming

Box Score

LARAMIE, Wyo. - University of Denver junior guard Travis Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) scored a career-high 17 points, but the Pioneers fell 61-48 to Wyoming at Arena-Auditorium on Tuesday night.

The Pioneers (2-9) caused 20 turnovers, but Wyoming (4-6) out-rebounded DU 32-13, held a 14-4 advantage on second chance points and converted 24-of-30 free throws. Denver was 6-for-12 from the line and turned the ball over 16 times.

"I thought our effort in what we needed to do - stop threes and causing turnovers - was pretty good," head coach Joe Scott said. "Our defense was much better. We only gave up one three-pointer and caused 20 turnovers. But we need to reward ourselves on the offensive end by making sure we take very good care of the basketball every game, and we didn't do that as well as we could tonight. Obviously you have to give credit to Wyoming."

Sophomore guard Chase Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) added 11 points - all but one of which were in the second half - six rebounds and a career-best five steals.

The Cowboys were led by Desmar Jackson's 16 points, one of four Wyoming players in double digits.

Travis Hallam hit the first three three-pointers he shot, giving the Pioneers a 9-6 lead early, but Wyoming ended the half on an 18-7 run to take an eight-point lead into the break. The Cowboys had 13 turnovers in the half, while the Pioneers had 11 turnovers, and Wyoming out-rebounded DU 17-4 in the first 20 minutes.

The Pioneers return home to host in-state rival Northern Colorado on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MT. The game can be seen live on FSN Rocky Mountain and heard on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1510 and FM 93.7, as well as www.DenverPioneers.com.
