LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 32 Texas Tech defeated No. 49 Denver, 4-0, in a windy men's tennis match today at McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.
The match was called due to the windy conditions after No. 41 Gonzalo Escobar defeated David Simson (Vienna, Austria) 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. The Red Raiders improved to 9-1 with the win, while Denver falls to 8-2. Despite the loss, DU head coach Danny Westerman was pleased with the two-match road trip for Denver. The Pioneers upset No. 25 Arizona on Feb. 26.
"Texas Tech adjusted to the difficult conditions a bit better than we did today," Westerman said. "It is a good lesson for us. Overall, we had a very successful weekend on the road."
DU lost the doubles point despite a win at No. 2 from Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany).
Weihs lost to No. 63 Raony Carvalho at No. 1 and Vorkefeld dropped his match at No. 5.
DU returns to action against Sacramento State on Friday, March 5.
