DENVER – Senior midfielder Lexi Sanders (Greenwood Village, Colo.) earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week honors, the MPSF announced today.
Sanders tied Denver’s single-game record with seven assists in a win at George Mason on March 26 and followed it with two goals and an assist against Albany on March 28. Sanders added three draw controls in each of DU’s games last week.
A Cherry Creek High School product, Sanders leads the nation with 29 assists, and she is 15th in the NCAA with 43 points, while adding a team-high 23 draw controls through 11 games this season. Sanders’ 29 assists this season already rank sixth in Denver single-season history, and her 59 career assists rank fifth.
This marks the second time that Sanders has earned MPSF Player of the Week honors (also Feb. 15) and the fourth time that a DU player has claimed the award this season. sophomore Lauren Ciccomascolo (Feb. 1) and redshirt freshman Kara Secora (March 8) also earned the accolades.
The Pioneers next travel to Berkley, Calif., to resume Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play against Cal on Fri., April 2 at 1 p.m. MT. Denver opened the season with an 18-5 victory over St. Mary’s on Jan. 29 to take a 1-0 mark in the MPSF.
