DU Women's Soccer Downs Buffalo 3-0

Box Score

DENVER - The University of Denver women's soccer team (1-1) defeated the visiting University of Buffalo (0-2) Bulls 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at CIBER Field, powered by goals from junior Alison Kenney (Fort Collins, Colo.), sophomore Kalie Vaughn (Fort Collins, Colo.) and freshman Nicholette DiGiacomo (Golden, Colo.).

"Our biggest disappointment this weekend was losing to LMU on Friday, and I am happy with the way our team regrouped and performed today to get a good win against a very good team," said head coach Jeff Hooker. "The second half was by far much better than the first, and I think that can be attributed to some tired legs and how aggressive Buffalo played us."

Denver opened the scoring in the 39th minute as Kenney converted a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, netting it into the top right corner, out of the reach of the Bulls keeper. The Pioneers struck again just minutes into the second half as Vaughn received a pass from sophomore Kaitlin Bast (Centennial, Colo.), dribbling it into the box and beyond the reach of a diving Bulls keeper.

The Pioneers' final goal came in the 85th minute as DiGiacomo scored her first goal of her collegiate career, taking a Kristen Hamilton (Littleton, Colo.) cross and slipping it into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Denver held the advantage in shots (27-6) and corner kicks (7-2), while the Bulls keeper Ainsley Wheldon made nine saves to Pioneers' keeper Lara Campbell's (Anchorage, Alaska) two.

Denver remains at home to host the DU Invitational next weekend, welcoming UNLV, Drake and Colorado to CIBER Field. The Invitational will open with a 4:30 p.m. game between UNLV and Drake, followed by the Pioneers' game against Colorado at 7 p.m., on Saturday.

The weekend's action will conclude on Monday with Colorado playing either UNLV or Drake at 10 a.m. and the Pioneers playing either UNLV or Drake at 12:15 p.m. Both the Pioneers' matches during the DU Invitational will be available on Pioneers Vision.

Season tickets are available for all 10 men's and 10 women's games for $60. Single game tickets are available for $5 for adults, free for children under the age of two and free for DU students with a valid Pioneer Card.
