Box Score DENVER - Sophomore defender Drew Beckie (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored a goal and had an assist to lead the University of Denver men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Oral Roberts at CIBER Field on Friday night.
"I'm happy about the result today, because the guys really fought it out," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "It was not our cleanest performance, but to go down a man early in the second half, we became a results oriented soccer team. I'm proud of the way some of the young guys came on the field and really took the game over for us. I'm really proud of the character the guys showed for the second week in a row."
Beckie put Denver (3-1-1) on the board in the 12th minute, heading in a corner kick from junior midfielder Jarod Stigall (Plano, Texas).
Beckie set up Denver's second goal of the game, cutting toward the box and feeding sophomore forward Nathan Sackeyfio (Seattle, Wash.), who fired a shot inside the far post.
Oral Roberts (2-4-0) out-shot the Pioneers 23-16, but senior goalkeeper Teale Stone (Tulsa, Okla.) made seven saves for his first career shutout.
The Pioneers next take on No. 23 Penn State at CIBER Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
