Box Score CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) stopped 21 shots and four players scored as No. 3 Denver beat No. 1 Boston College, 4-2, in its season-opening game Friday night at Kelley Rink.
Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev.), Beau Bennett (Gardena, Calif.), Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) and David Makowski (Wildwood, Mo.) scored as the Pioneers won their season opener for fifth straight year.
"I felt we did a great job with our neutral zone transition and I'm really happy for Adam," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "Starting the season with a win, especially on the road, gives your team confidence."
Zucker struck first for DU with a breakaway goal from Dustin Jackson (Omaha, Neb.) at 3:27 of the first period. After a Paul Phillips (Darien, Ill.) penalty, Almeida answered on the power play at 6:05 from Kevin Hayes and Chris Kreider. BC outshot DU, 7-6, in the opening period.
Bennett roofed a wrist shot from the left circle past Parker Milner 55 seconds into the second stanza to give DU a 2-1 lead. Phillips and Scott Mayfield (St. Louis, Mo.) earned assists on the goal.

Murray mishandled the puck near his net and Hayes capitalized from the top of the slot at 17:13 to conclude the second-period scoring.
Makowski iced the win with an empty-net goal from just outside DU's blueline with 39 seconds left in the game.
Murray, who made eight saves in the final frame, gave credit to the play of his defensemen for the win.
"My defensemen play amazing to say the least and the forwards were coming back for me," Murray said. "I tip my cap to my defensemen."
Boston College (2-1) outshot Denver, 23-22, and went 1-for-5 on the power play. DU was 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
DU plays at Boston University tomorrow night at 5:05 p.m. MT.
