Box Score DENVER - University of Denver men's soccer sophomore midfielder Zach Bolden (Denver, Colo.) scored in the 50th minute, sending the Pioneers to a 1-0 victory over Seattle on Sunday afternoon at CIBER Field.
With DU's win and UNLV's loss to Sacramento State today, Denver (5-9-3, 3-5-1 MPSF) clinched a spot in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament, which will be held at CIBER Field from Nov. 10-13.
"It was a rough first half, but we persevered and this was a complete team effort today," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "We battled today, and Seattle battled today. It wasn't necessarily pretty or the way we normally play, but I'm proud of this win."
In the 50th minute, sophomore midfielder Cole Chapleski (Broomfield, Colo.) stole the ball in the midfield and sent a pass to Bolden on the right side. Bolden dribbled into the top corner of the box and fired a shot from 20 yards, scoring just inside the far post. Chapleski's assist marked the first point of his career.
Freshman goalkeeper Oliver Brown (Louisville, Ky.) tallied his second career shutout, making three saves against Seattle (2-12-2, 1-8-0 MPSF).
The Redhawks outshot DU 18-15 in the game, but the Pioneers held a 10-7 shot advantage in the second half. Seattle also led 6-3 in corner kicks.
Prior to the game, Denver honored seniors Kellan Christensen (Layton, Utah), Matt Kirby (Beaumont, Texas), Bob Miltenberger (Southlake, Texas) and Jarod Stigall (Plano, Texas) in their final regular season home game.
The Pioneers conclude the regular season at Air Force on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. MT.
