Box Score DENVER - No. 12 Denver ended a four-game winless streak with a 5-4 win over in-state rival Colorado College before a sellout crowd of 6,148 Saturday night at Magness Arena.
Beau Bennett (Gardena, Calif.), Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.), Chris Knowlton (Colorado Springs), Jason Zucker (Las Vegas) and John Lee (Moorhead, Minn.) all lit the lamp for the Pioneers, who improve to 4-3-2, 3-2-2 WCHA. Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) grinded out the win with 33 saves. Shore added a pair of assists for a three-point night.
Eamonn McDermott, Dakota Eveland, Archie Skalbeck and Jeff Collett scored for Colorado College, which fell to 5-2, 3-2 WCHA.
"The bottom line is we earned a much-needed win," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "We played well at times and nervous during stretches of the game. It was good to see Adam hang in there when he didn't have his 'A' game."
Bennett, who missed DU's last four games with a wrist injury, celebrated his return to the lineup by staking DU to a 1-0 lead after burying a feed from Luke Salazar (Thornton, Colo.) at 9:02 of the opening stanza.
The second period featured seven goals. CC capitalized on a Scott Mayfield (St. Louis, Mo.) five-minute major penalty when McDermott beat Murray with the man-advantage at 1:28 before Drew Shore reclaimed the lead for DU at 2:53. Knowlton, Zucker and Lee scored consecutive goals to give DU a commanding 5-1 lead before Eveland and Skalbeck scored to make it a two-goal game after two periods.
Collett cut the lead to 5-4 with a scrappy goal at 13:56 of the third period. CC pulled goaltender Josh Thorimbert (six saves), who relieved starter Joe Howe (17 saves), for the final 62 seconds, but could not score.Colorado College outshot Denver, 37-28, and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Denver went 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
 
The Pioneers return to action against Nebraska Omaha on Nov. 18-19.
