Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. - Jordan George and Ben Kinne each had a goal and an assist to lead Bemidji State to a 2-1 win over No. 13 Denver in WCHA Saturday night at Sanford Center.
Freshman goaltender Andrew Walsh made 36 saves as the Beavers improved to 7-9-2, 6-7-2 WCHA. The win was Bemidji State's first against Denver in the all-time series.
Freshman Daniel Doremus (Aspen, Colo.) scored Denver's lone goal and freshman goaltender Juho Olkinuora (Helsinki, Finland) stopped 22 shots in the loss for Denver (7-6-3, 5-4-3 WCHA).
"Like last Saturday night at CC, we had plenty of chances to score tonight," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "We have to find a way to convert our scoring chances, especially when Juho continues to give us a chance to win."
George put the Beavers on the board first with a power-play goal from Kinne and Brad Hunt at 3:26 of the first period. Bemidji State outshot the Pioneers, 9-6, and Andrew Walsh denied a Nate Dewhurst (Johnston, Iowa) on a breakaway.
Kinne made it 2-0 with goal from the low slot at 4:03 of the third. Shea Walters and George earned assists on the goal.
Doremus put the Pioneers on the scoreboard at 11:47 of the final period. Doremus buried a pass after a great individual effort by David Makowski (Wildwood, Mo.). Nick Shore (Denver, Colo.) also assisted on the goal.
DU owned the shot battle 37-24, including a 19-5 margin in the third period. DU went 0-for-6 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Pioneers return to action at St. Cloud State on Dec. 16-17.
Notes: DU is now 9-1 all-time vs. Bemidji State. The Pioneers and Beavers meet in Denver on Jan. 13-14, 2012. Drew Shore and Jason Zucker's (Las Vegas) seven-game point streaks ended.
