DU Loses OT Thriller at CC, 4-3

Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS - Alexander Krushelnyski's penalty shot at 3:46 of overtime gave No. 8 Colorado College a dramatic 4-3 win over No. 10 Denver before a sellout crowd of 7,674 Friday night at World Arena.

Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored two goals and assisted on another, but DU falls to 6-5-3, 4-3-3 WCHA with its second consecutive loss. CC avenges a 5-4 loss to DU earlier this season and ties the Gold Pan Trophy battle at 1-1. The Tigers also improve to 8-4-0, 6-4-0 WCHA.

Beau Bennett (Gardena, Calif.) added a goal and an assist and Nick Shore (Denver, Colo.) had two assists for the Pioneers. Juho Olkinuora (Helsinki, Finland) made 28 saves in the loss.

Krushelnyski scored twice and Scott Winkler and Joe Marciano each added goals for the Tigers. Joe Howe earned the win with 30 saves.

"We created plenty of scoring chances, but we didn't do a good job of finishing around the net" DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "I liked the way we played, but we have to score more goals and win these types of games."

Colorado College struck first when Krushelnyski scored a power-play goal at 9:51 of the first period.

Zucker knotted the game at 1-1 at 15:52 of the first. David Makowski (Wildwood, Mo.) shot the puck from the left point and Zucker picked up the rebound on Howe's right side for a 4-on-4 tally. Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) also picked up an assist on the goal.

Denver took a 2-1 lead on Zucker's second goal of the night at 3:22 of the middle frame. Zucker picked up the puck and found the back of the net as he was being knocked down. Nick Shore (Denver, Colo.) and Bennett recorded assists on the play.

Winkler tied the game at 2-2 less than three minutes later during a 2-on-1 opportunity for the Tigers and Marciano gave the Tigers the go-ahead goal on the man-advantage at 14:46 of the second.

Bennett made it a 3-3 game at 14:08 of the third period, firing the puck past Howe with a quick wrister just after the Denver power play expired.

In the extra frame, Krushelnyski was dragged down on a breakaway by Makowski, leading to a CC penalty shot. Krushelnyski beat Olkinuora glove-side with a highlight-reel goal to win the game for the Tigers.

Denver outshot Colorado College, 33-32, and went 1-for-4 with the man-advantage. The Tigers were 2-for-6 on the power play.

The Pioneers head to Bemidji State for a two-game WCHA series on Dec. 9-10.

Notes: Drew Shore has nine points (3g, 6a) during his six-game point streak. Nick Shore had two assists for his fourth multi-point effort. Zucker has a pair of two-goal games this season.
