Pioneers Fall 13-9 to Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Junior Melissa Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had two goals, two assists and two draw controls, but the University of Denver women's lacrosse team fell 13-9 to Hofstra on Friday afternoon.

Denver (0-3) jumped to a 7-5 lead in the first half, but Hofstra (2-1) scored seven-straight goals in just over a 10 minute stretch, including five of Jill Maier's six goals for the Pride.

Redshirt sophomore Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) had a goal and two assists, while junior Lauren Ciccomascolo (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) added a goal and an assist for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers concludes their road trip at Stony Brook on Sunday at 10 a.m. MT, before returning to Denver for their home opener against St. Mary's on Friday, March 4 at 4 p.m. MT.
