Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - University of Denver sophomore guard Chase Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) had a team-high 22 points and six rebounds, but Denver fell 75-72 to Arkansas-Little Rock in overtime on Thursday night at the Jack Stephens Center.
"Key threes and turnovers. That was the game," head coach Joe Scott said. "Give Little Rock credit for making those shots, but we need to stop them from shooting them. It's disappointing because the game was there for us to win."
Junior guard Travis Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) added 17 points and five rebounds, but UALR scored 21 points off 15 DU turnovers and had 10 second-chance points. UALR senior guard Matt Mouzy scored a game-high 24 points off 8-for-10 from three-point range, and the Trojans had 11 three-pointers in the game.
The Pioneers (11-11, 7-2 SBC) led by as many as 12 points with 18:53 remaining in the game,
but an 18-1 run by the Trojans gave UALR (13-11, 5-4 SBC) their first lead and a 47-40 advantage with 9:00 left in the game.
Denver fought back from an eight-point deficit with 2:26 left in the game, and Chase Hallam nailed a three-pointer with a second left to force overtime.
The teams battled back and forth in the extra period, and Travis Hallam sank a pair of free throws to put Denver up 72-71 with 24 seconds left. However, UALR made four free throws, and DU's final attempts fell short.
In the game, both teams shot an identical 24-of-48 (50.0 percent) from the floor. DU went 10-for-21 (47.6 percent) from three-point range and edged the Trojans 27-26 on the boards.
Denver started the game with a blistering 7-for-7 from the floor, leading to a quick 16-6 lead with 14:08, but UALR clawed back with an 11-2 run to cut the lead to one. A three-pointer Stafford and a pair by Chase Hallam gave Denver a 30-23 lead at the half. DU shot 12-for-25 (48.0 percent) in the half, while holding UALR to 36.4 percent (8-for-22).
