Box Score TOWSON, Md. - University of Denver women's lacrosse sophomore and reining Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week Alex Befus (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored four goals and added two assists, but the Pioneers fell 12-10 to Towson on Friday night.
Denver (2-7) jumped to an early lead after senior Tulley Stapp (Denver, Colo.) and junior Melissa Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored within the first 3:28.
Towson (4-4), however, responded with a 6-1 run to pull in front and took a 7-4 lead to halftime.
Trailing by as many as four goals, DU stormed back to within 10-9, as Befus scored twice and assisted a goal by redshirt sophomore Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.), her second to go along with an assist in the game.
A pair of Towson goals in the final nine minutes sealed the victory,
Senior Lauren Benner (Arnold, Md.) made five saves while allowing five goals, while taking over in the second half for the Pioneers.
