No. 22 Texas Tech Edges DU, 4-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 22 Texas Tech beat Denver 4-2 in men's tennis action Sunday at The Falls Athletic Club in Lubbock, Texas. The Pioneers fall to 1-1 with the loss, while the Aggies improve to 2-0.

"I was very happy with the way we competed today," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "The more comfortable we get in competitive situations, the better off we'll be. I'm anxious to see where the team can go this year."

Juniors Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) and Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) posted singles wins for the Pioneers.

Vorkefeld beat Rafael Garcia 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while Biasion beat Francisco Zambon 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Senior Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) lost in three sets to No. 23 Gonzalo Escobar at No. 2 singles and sophomore Alex Clinkenbeard's (Loveland, Colo.) match was headed to a third set before Texas Tech clinched the win.

Denver returns to action against Harvard on Friday, Jan. 27.
