Denver Rolls to 67-50 Win at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. - Five players scored at least 10 points, as the University of Denver rolled to a 67-50 victory at South Alabama at the Mitchell Center on Saturday afternoon

Sophomore forward Chris Udofia (Irving, Texas) led the Pioneers (13-3, 3-1 SBC) with 15 points. Freshman forward Royce O'Neale (Killeen, Texas) had 10 points, a career-high seven assists and four steals with most of those stats coming in the second half.

"After Thursday's win, I was really happy for our guys. Today, I was really impressed by them," head coach Joe Scott said. "That game was physical, and every guy played good defense and showed a lot of toughness. A couple of guys were really terrific, but it was a team effort. We're building something, and hopefully this will keep us going in the right direction."

Junior guard Chase Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) had 11 points and a team-high six rebounds, while senior guard Brian Stafford (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and freshman guard Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.  

Coming out of halftime with a four-point lead, Denver held off an initial surge by the Jaguars (8-6, 0-3 SBC) before going on an 18-5 run and maintained the lead the remainder of the game.

Denver forced 22 turnovers and made USA pay, outscoring the Jaguars 26-8 in points off turnovers. DU also won the battle of second-chance points 11-8 and fast breaks 8-2.

Stafford hit his first three three-point attempts and Olson nailed his first two, as the Pioneers jumped to a 13-point lead with 6:08 remaining in the first half. However, the Jaguars went on a 9-2 run the rest of the half, and Denver's lead was 30-24 at the break.

Notes: The Pioneers improved to 5-1 on the road this season. Denver won six total road games in the previous five years with no more than two in a season...Brian Stafford is now just three points shy of Yemi Nicholson for eighth on DU's all-time scoring list...DU had five players scoring in double digits for the first time since Jan. 29, 2011 against North Texas.
