LONE TREE, Colo. - On the eve of the University of Denver women's soccer team's first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, head coach Jeff Hooker and assistant coach Katie Hooker gave birth to their first child, Aubrey Kathleen Hooker, on Saturday afternoon at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colo.
Katie Hooker, who hasn't traveled with the team since the Pioneers' 3-1 win at No. 13 Portland on September 23, was joined by her husband Saturday afternoon. Jeff Hooker caught a morning flight back to Denver after the Pioneers' 3-1 win over Maryland Friday night in the NCAA Tournament Second Round in Stanford, Calif.
"Our entire Pioneer soccer family is extremely happy to be playing Stanford in the Round of 16, but even more happy for Jeff and Katie (Hooker), with the addition of their first child to that family," assistant coach Kris Peat said.
Jeff Hooker will attempt to return to Stanford to coach the Pioneers in Sunday's match.
The Pioneers will take on No. 1 Stanford in the NCAA Round of 16 on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
