DENVER - Former University of Denver men's basketball player Nate Rohnert signed a contract to play for GasTerra Flames Groningen in Holland. Rohnert is scheduled to play for his new team beginning with a game on Dec. 28.
"I'm excited about this new opportunity," said Rohnert. "I really enjoyed playing for BBC Bayreuth, and I will miss my teammates and the fans, but I look forward to joining GasTerra Flames Groningen."
GasTerra Flames Groningen, which is currently 10-6 and fourth in the standings, has won three national titles in the Dutch Basketball League, including one in 2010.
Rohnert began this season playing for BBC Bayreuth in the Germany and was a member of Denain ASC Voltaire in France last season.
Rohnert played from 2006-10 with the Pioneers, earning All-Sun Belt Conference First Team honors as a junior and senior. The guard also was named to the 2010 All-Sun Belt Conference Tournament Team, as well as making his second-straight All-District 24 First Team.
Rohnert concluded his career as one of the most prolific players in Denver history, finishing as DU's all-time leader in games played (120), ninth on DU's all-time scorer list with 1,307 points, fourth in both career free throws made (379) and free throw attempts (528), sixth in career assists (357), and seventh in career steals (124).
