Denver Drops Opener to Johns Hopkins, 20-5

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. - University of Denver women's lacrosse redshirt junior Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) had a goal and an assist, but the Pioneers fell 20-5 to Johns Hopkins in their season opener on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Rachael Dillon (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) scored her first career goal, while junior Mikayla Clark (Eden Prairie, Minn.), sophomores Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) and Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) also scored for the Pioneers (0-1).

"Obviously, this is not the way we wanted to start the season," head coach Liza Kelly said. "Give credit to Johns Hopkins for playing a very good game. We've got some things to work on, and now we need to put this behind us and focus on Louisville next week."

Candace Rossi recorded five goals and an assist, while Taylor D'Amore and Rachel Ballatori each had four goals and two assists for the Blue Jays (3-0), who outshot Denver 33-10 and put 26 shots on goal.

Denver remains on the road with a matchup at Louisville on Friday, March 2 at 12 p.m. MT.
