SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Denver men's tennis team opened its two-match California road trip with a 4-3 win over No. 49 UC Santa Barbara Saturday at Recreation Center Courts. The No. 54 Pioneers (11-8) won the doubles point and three singles matches to post the road win.
"It was another great team effort today," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "We had some different guys step in and do a great job, especially Luke Manley in singles and doubles. He stayed composed and came back from a couple of match points in the second set of the clinching win."
DU trailed 3-2 before Max Krammer (Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) tied the score with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Greg Scott at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Luke Manley (Edmonton, Alberta) then clinched the match with his biggest win of his rookie season. Manley rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Axel Bouillin at No. 6 singles to give Denver its eighth win in its last nine matches.
Manley and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) also clinched the doubles point for DU with a 9-8 win over Ziad Sultan and Alexander Gryaznov. Weihs also added a three-set win over Benjamin Recknagel at No. 2 singles.
Denver plays at UC Irvine on Sunday, April 1.
