Air Force Shuts Out No. 25 Denver, 1-0

Box Score

USAFA, Colo. - The No. 25 University of Denver men's soccer team fell to Air Force 1-0 on Saturday evening at Cadet Soccer Stadium, in both team's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener.

"They didn't really cause us problems in any way besides the goal," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "We lost our composure a little bit. We weren't as dangerous as we have been in the final third. It's a tough loss, but in conference play anything happens. They live off the restart, and they got a goal off a restart here tonight."

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Falcons (4-5-1, 1-0-0 MPSF) earned a free kick 25 yards out in the 61st minute. Senior Kevin Durr took the restart that eventually found the head of senior Zane Dydasco. The header was played into the six yard box, before Patrick Compton got on the end of it for the Falcons' breakthrough.

The Pioneers (5-2-2, 0-1-0 MPSF) controlled most of the possession in the match, and held a 17-4 advantage in shots and a 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. Denver took nine corners in the second half. AFA goalkeeper Matt Underwood made three saves in his fourth win of the season.

Denver remains on the road next week, as the Pioneers travel to MPSF newcomer Houston Baptist next Friday. The match is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. MT.
