Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Denver men’s soccer fell 1-0 to No. 5 Saint Louis on Saturday night.
The Pioneers (1-3-1) held an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corners, but Roberto Kristo scored the game’s only goal in the 18th minute to give the Billikens (4-1-0) the victory.
“I speak for the entire group when I say how disappointed I am that we did not get more out of tonight’s performance,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “We deserved better against a very good Saint Louis team. The statistics were in our favor on the night, but it doesn’t tell the true story. We will learn from this and continue to work hard. Most importantly, we will get better from it.”
Five of Denver’s 11 shots were on goal, including a pair by junior Brian Hoyt (Denver, Colo.).
“Good things happen when you consistently do the right things. This group continues to move in the right direction and get better each week,” Muuss said. “I believe in these guys and hope they continue to believe in themselves because they have the potential to be special.”
The Pioneers return home for a pair of games at CIBER Field. Denver will host Bradley on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. MT and San Diego State on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. MT.
Fans interested in purchasing home game tickets can do so by phone at 303-871-2336, in person at the Richie Center box office or through DenverPioneers.com.
