Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – University of Denver men’s soccer junior transfer Kosta Kordistos (Lippstadt, Germany) scored his first goal as a Pioneer, but DU fell 4-1 at George Mason on Friday night.
“George Mason seemed to want it more than we did early in the game,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “They took chances they got well and made us pay for our mistakes. Hats off to GMU, but I know we are a much better team than we showed tonight. We need to regroup and show that on Sunday.”
George Mason (3-0-0) scored three goals in a three-minute span early in the first half to give the Patriots the lead over the Pioneers (1-2-0). Jannik Eckenrode scored a pair of goals in the 14th and 17th minutes, sandwiching a goal by Wes Sever in the 16th minute.
Sever gave Mason its fourth goal of the game in the 38th minute, and the Patriots took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Kordistos put the Pioneers on the board in the 84th minute, scoring off a free kick from the top of the box.
The Pioneers continue their road trip at American on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. MT.
