Denver Downs IUPUI 66-45

Box Score

DENVER- University of Denver senior Chris Udofia (Irving, Texas) finished with a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds, as Denver took down IUPUI 66-45 for its first Summit League win at Magness Arena on Saturday.

“We played consistently throughout the 40 minutes today,” head coach Joe Scott said. “And we played consistency as IUPUI played a pretty difficult defense to play against. Our guys stayed with our concepts, and I think they broke through on their own in the first half with that. We got some easy buckets.”

Udofia went 7-for-10 from the field, tallying six assists and three blocks without a turnover for the Pioneers (8-10, 1-2 Summit League).

Junior point guard Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished the game with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists, surpassing 200 assists in his career. Olson shot 60 percent from both the field (6-for-10) and three-point range (3-for-5). He also recorded a career-high four steals.

Junior Cam Griffin (San Antonio, Texas) recorded 10 points, and sophomore Nate Engesser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range for nine points.

IUPUI (5-16, 0-4 Summit League) took an early seven-point lead 2:52 into the contest, as Denver missed its first six shots.

However, the Pioneers took off on a 21-0 run to claim a commanding lead and took a 30-18 advantage over the Jaguars into the half.

Denver shot 47.9 percent (23-for-48) from the field and 47.4 percent (9-19) from three-point range, while holding the Jags to just 16-of-44 (36.4 percent) from the floor and 1-of-9 (11.1 percent) from beyond the arc.

The Pioneers led by as many as 27 points late in the second half, scoring 18 points off of 12 turnovers by IUPUI, 10 of which came from DU steals.

IUPUI was led by Mitch Patton's 19 points. Donovan Gibbs added eight points and six rebounds, while Marcellus Barksdale grabbed 11 boards.
