Box Score Oct. 12, 2014 VOLL v South Dakota (12 OCT 14) - Highlights
Box Score DENVER- The Crimson and Gold earned their 14th home court win over the South Dakota Coyotes (previously undefeated in the Summit League) on Sunday in Hamilton Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-22, 25-27, 27-25, and 25-16.
Coming off of a five-set rally with North Dakota State this past Friday, the Pioneers proved their ability to quickly recompose and bring their best game.
"We didn't feel good about Friday's match. While North Dakota State has a fantastic program, we faltered as a team. Yesterday, we had a really good practice, went over what we needed to improve, and brought ourselves to a much better mental space for today's match," head coach Jesse Mahoney explained.
He went on to note that Moni Corrujedo and Cassie Baird did a tremendous job of stepping up as outside hitter Nola Basey temporarily stepped back due to a game injury on Friday night.
The Pioneers were led by sophomore Moni Corrujedo (El Paso, Tex.), who amassed 20 kills in four sets at a .354 attack rate. Fellow sophomore Monique Domme hit a season-high record with three service aces, while senior Bailey Karst contributed 59 assists, junior Sarah Schmid led in blocks with four, and sophomore Nola Basey provided 20 digs.
With this 12th consecutive win, Denver improves their season to 17-3 and brings their Summit League record to a perfect 6-0.
Next up, Denver will face Summit League opponent, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on Friday, October 17 at 5 p.m. MT in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
