Four Pioneers Named All-West Region

Dec. 11, 2014

NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's All-West Team

DENVER - Four members of the University of Denver men's soccer team have been named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's All-West team.

Senior Kosta Kordistos (Lippstadt, Germany) and junior Jordan Schweitzer (Everett, Wash.) were named to the second team while sophomore defender Reagan Dunk (Dallas, Texas) and senior defender Taylor Hunter (Aurora, Colo) were named to the third team.

It's the first time in DU soccer history that four players have been named to the All-West region team.
A year ago, Denver placed three players on the team; Zach Bolden (Denver, Colo.), Theodor Remman (Hosle, Norway) were named to the first team and Schweitzer who was named to the second team.

"It's a great honor to have four of our players recognized by the NSCAA and a huge testament to the overall program here at DU," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "All of our players know that if we work hard together and believe in what we are doing we will receive both team and individual success both on and off the field."

The Pioneers captured their second consecutive Summit League championship with a 3-1 victory over Western Illinois in the league tournament final. Hunter, who has also garnered several academic awards during his stellar career, was named MVP of the tournament and Kordistos had a goal and an assist in the tourney to help Denver to their second straight NCAA tournament appearance, a first in program history.

"Both Kosta and Taylor were great leaders both and off the field this year and they will be hard to replace," Muuss explained. "A sign of good leader is that they have left a positive influence on the future of the program and have prepared others to continue to take the program to new heights. I think these two and the other seniors did exactly that this season."

While Kordistos and Hunter will be greatly missed, Muuss is thankful to have Dunk and Schweitzer return next season.

"I am extremely happy for both Jordan and Reagan on being honored. As returning players it's exciting to see what they are capable of in the future. We will certainly need both of them to have similar and even better campaigns next season to fill the voids of our seniors and to help is reach our goals."

The bar for the Pioneers men's soccer team continues to rise. The foundation is strong and the tradition is growing. With a host of returning players, plus a new recruiting class, the goals for the Pioneers are simple. Those goals are continued excellence in the classroom and to bring home another Summit League title and unprecedented third NCAA tournament berth.
