Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – University of Denver senior Chris Udofia (Irving, Texas) scored 13 points, while adding five assists and three steals, but the Pioneers fell 59-49 to IUPUI at The Jungle on Thursday night.
“We’ve been playing really well, but we didn’t tonight,” said head coach Joe Scott. “Give credit to IUPUI because they played well. We got off to a good start, but they took advantage of some miscues that put them in position, and we could never seem to get ourselves going after that. We have to regroup and get back to playing the way we did in the prior six games.”
Denver (12-12, 5-4 Summit League) shot 40.0 percent (18-of-45) from the field and 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from three-point range, while IUPUI (6-21, 1-9 Summit League) earned its first Summit League win by hitting 54.1 percent (20-of-37) from the floor and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line.
Udofia moved into fifth place on Denver’s all-time scoring list with his 1,421st point, passing Peter Faller (1984-88). Junior Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists points for Denver.
The Pioneers jumped to an early 8-3 lead, but IUPUI outscored DU 9-2 in the final 6:41 to take a 25-20 lead into halftime.
The Jaguars continued to pounce in the second half, coming out with a 10-3 run out of the break. Denver cut the deficit to six with 1:35 to play, but the Jaguars held on for the win.
Mitch Patton’s 14 points led a quartet of Jaguars scoring in double digits.
Denver concludes its Indiana swing in Fort Wayne on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. MT. The game at IUPUI will air live on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1510 and 93.7 FM.
