DENVER – The University of Denver women’s lacrosse team was picked No. 17 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Preseason Poll, announced Monday morning.
Defending National Champion North Carolina earned the top ranking after getting 360-of-400 first-place votes. UNC finished 18-3, topping Maryland 13-12 in triple-overtime to win the championship.
The Pioneers finished the 2013 season with an 18-3 record and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Denver put together a 15-game winning streak last year and ran the table during the MPSF regular season. Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) and Hannah Hook (Arnold, Md.) return, with the former leading the nation in assists (74) last year, and tying for the second-most single-season assists in NCAA history, and the latter ranking first nationally in saves (90) and third in save percentage (.514).
Denver opens its 2014 schedule against Colorado at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. Additionally, Denver will host the 2014 MPSF Tournament from May 1-3.
