Aug. 22, 2014 DENVER -The University of Denver Athletics and Recreation department announced a new TV deal with Altitude Sports & Entertainment on Friday that includes four regular season volleyball matches inside Hamilton Gymnasium.
"We are excited to partner with Altitude to bring our fans in the region three of our fall sports programs new partnership; men's and women's soccer and volleyball," Ferrell said. "All of these nonconference games will be highly competitive, and should be exciting to watch on Altitude this fall."
Altitude's DU volleyball schedule will begin on September 5, as the Pioneers battle Sam Houston State (7 p.m.) in their home opener. The other three volleyball matches on Altitude are against Kansas (Sept. 6/7:30 p.m.), San Francisco (Sept. 19/7 p.m.) and Nevada (Sept. 20/12 p.m.). All four DU volleyball televised matches are a part of one of Denver's two home tournaments, the Pioneer Classic, and the Denver Invitational.
"It's exciting and great for our fans to have us on Altitude," volleyball head coach Jesse Mahoney said. "It'll be great for our players and for the exposure that having games televised will give to our program. We'll definitely be excited to be on TV, and I think the people that tune in to watch us will see a great product on the floor.
The partnership between Altitude and the University of Denver will also give Denver student employees a chance to gain hands on experience with a live television broadcast.
"This partnership speaks volumes about the positive state of our athletics platform and the commitment of Altitude Sports & Entertainment to offer broad-based sports programming," said DU Vice Chancellor for Athletics, Recreation and Ritchie Center Operations Peg Bradley-Doppes. "Last season's lacrosse broadcasts gave Pioneer fans outside the metro area a chance to see two of the nation's up-and-coming programs first-hand on one of the country's premier regional sports networks. Now, soccer, volleyball and gymnastics are added to the slate, which continues the win-win nature of this partnership."
Both the University of Denver and Altitude are committed to using the expanded partnership as a way to help the next generation of technical experts in the broadcasting field. This past season, DU leadership committed significant resources to upgrade all of the back-of-the-house technical components to HD quality, which allowed the University to produce and oversee all elements of the lacrosse broadcasts. As a part of its production crew, the University utilized DU students on many of the key technical broadcast elements to further their understanding of the field. Some of the students have now gone on to work other Altitude events as freelancers for the network.
All 12 Denver sport events will also be streamed on Pioneer Vision, website platform home for Denver sport events.
